DG FCL: Plan the Load Before the Truck Arrives
A full container is not a complete plan. The work that matters happens before loading: matching the cargo, handling arrangements, responsible people and deadlines so fewer decisions are left to the last moment.

Short Answer
DG FCL allows planning around the shipment, but classification, packaging, co-loading feasibility and carrier acceptance still need attention. Confirm the proposed operation with the actual handling parties before dispatching goods or transport. The practical priorities are a clear cargo list, loading conditions, assigned responsibilities, timing and an exception process, rather than container size alone.
Classification, packing and acceptance remain subject to the current edition of applicable regulations, carrier review and port requirements. Confirm before shipment.
When should FCL be considered?
Look beyond volume to dimensions, weight, handling needs, co-loading feasibility and the customer's timing and handover requirements. A shipment does not have to fill a container before FCL is worth discussing. Small volume alone does not establish that DG LCL is available.
A dedicated container can simplify coordination around one shipment, but it does not permit arbitrary cargo combinations. Do not assume that distance between packages solves every compatibility issue; the actual proposal still needs review.
What should the loading brief contain?
Prepare the cargo list, package dimensions and weights, condition, handling needs, proposed container type, working location and site contacts. For equipment or vehicles, identify operational restrictions and any points requiring further instructions from the customer.
Have suitable operational or technical personnel confirm the loading and securing proposal. Define the roles of the driver, facility and forwarder. “The driver will sort it out” is not an agreed loading plan, and a neat photograph is not technical validation.
Who coordinates the shipment on the China side?
I handle the initial plan and key questions. Company operations colleagues follow daily bookings, documentation and milestone feedback; partner-warehouse arrangements are coordinated with the actual operator. The customer should know who makes a decision, who reports progress and who handles an exception.
For overseas agents, define the start and end points and the destination handover. A port-to-port scope is different from a service including destination clearance, inland transport and exhibition delivery. Clear boundaries are part of a workable partnership.
How should time-critical exhibition cargo be planned?
Work backwards from when the customer needs the goods, with separate owners for origin and destination steps. Sailing, expected arrival, cargo availability and delivery to the venue are different milestones. Ask the party responsible for each segment to confirm its conditions.
In the published ZEEKR 8X exhibition case, another forwarder entrusted me with the Shanghai-to-Los Angeles port segment. US clearance and exhibition delivery were outside my scope. The recorded sailing-to-arrival interval was 17 calendar days; that historical result is not a future transit or event-delivery commitment.
How should changes be handed over?
If quantity, packing, weight, handling conditions or the sailing changes, update the working information and notify the affected parties. Make clear whether an earlier version has been superseded. Loading against one version while preparing documents against another creates avoidable uncertainty.
Keep exception records for coordination and traceability. Public use needs separate permission and protection of identifying information. To start an enquiry, send the cargo, package data, destination and timing so we can discuss whether the proposed movement is workable.
What a review is not
A carrier review is an assessment against that carrier's own current requirements, made by the carrier. It is not a guarantee, and it is not something a forwarder can convert into one. What we can do is make the submission accurate and complete, and tell you early when something will not work.
How did the ZEEKR 8X exhibition shipment work?
An assignment from another forwarder, partner-warehouse handling and a Shanghai–Los Angeles port scope. See the confirmed handling brief and shipment milestones.

Common questions
- Can a part-container load move as DG FCL?
- It can be considered. Assess acceptance, handling, dimensions, timing and the overall cost instead of choosing solely by volume.
- Can I combine any goods in a dedicated container?
- No. The actual combination needs review. Do not assume that physical spacing alone resolves every restriction.
- Does the driver decide the loading plan?
- Do not assume so. Suitable operational or technical personnel should confirm the proposal and the responsibilities of each party before work begins.
- Which deadlines matter for DG FCL?
- Confirm the actual review, documentation, declaration and gate-in milestones with the relevant parties. Do not impose one universal sequence or lead time.
- Can the case's 17 days be used as my transit commitment?
- No. It is a historical sailing-to-arrival interval, not a future schedule guarantee and not a measure of clearance, collection or delivery to the venue.
- What should I send for an initial enquiry?
- Product and available transport information, packaging, quantity, package dimensions and weights, destination, cargo-ready date and required arrival date. Include site-handling constraints.
