DG LCL: Small Shipment, More Coordination
A smaller shipment does not necessarily mean a simpler plan. With dangerous goods LCL, your cargo shares an arrangement with other consignments.

Short Answer
DG LCL needs coordination across cargo acceptance, consolidation compatibility, packaging, documentation and the available service. FCL removes the need to share with unrelated consignments, but it does not remove dangerous goods requirements.
Classification, packing and acceptance remain subject to the current edition of applicable regulations, carrier review and port requirements. Confirm before shipment.
Check the service before sending the cargo
The first question is whether a suitable consolidation service can consider this cargo and destination. A general LCL schedule is not confirmation of DG acceptance.
Provide the cargo information early enough for the parties responsible for consolidation and carriage to review it. Compatibility should not be left as a surprise for arrival at the warehouse.
Warehouse checks are one part of the process
Receiving checks can record package condition and compare visible markings and documents. Their scope depends on the agreed operation.
A visual check alone does not establish classification or settle the full loading arrangement. Clarify who reviews each part and how discrepancies are reported before loading.
Choose FCL for the right reason
FCL may be worth comparing when quantity, cargo combinations or schedule requirements make sharing unsuitable. Compare the full cost and handling plan, not just the rate per unit.
Incomplete documents are not a reason to bypass review by switching to FCL. Resolve the information gap whichever mode is selected.
Questions I get asked about this
- Can every dangerous good move by LCL?
- No. Suitability depends on the cargo, service, routing and required approvals.
- Should compatibility only be checked on arrival?
- No. Provide the information early and establish the review process before dispatch.
- Does FCL avoid documentation requirements?
- No. Changing the container arrangement does not resolve missing or inconsistent information.
- Which option should I ask you to quote?
- Send the cargo, quantity and date requirements. Where appropriate, compare both options on the same scope.

Cargo, UN number if you have it, quantity, packaging, destination and the required arrival date. If the classification is unsettled, say so and attach the MSDS.
